Taking Tea - It’s for men too.
Well, that’s a first… or, is it?
Did you know, the history of “taking tea” originally started with upperclass men.
Believe it or not.
Tea was often seen as a luxury and was initially popular among the upper classes in Europe. However, as its popularity grew and it became more widely available, tea drinking became more common among people of all social classes. And you can thank urbanization and the Duchess of Bedford for that, as she was among the very first to introduce “Afternoon Tea”, a light meal taken in the afternoon before dinner, traditionally consisting of tea to drink with sandwiches, cakes, and scones.
Today, both women and men enjoy the refreshment of an afternoon tea. Hosting a men’s afternoon tea can be done as easily as their Super Bowl game night, just quieter and more sophisticated… lol.
Tips on Hosting an Afternoon Tea for the Modern Gentleman
Keep the guest list small. Close friends and family create a more intimate and modest gathering.
Set a relaxed dress code. Encourage guests to come dressed smart casual and comfortable for the occasion.
Focus on creating a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for his guests to relax and socialize. They don’t necessarily have to sip from teacups. If drinking iced tea, give them a whiskey glass instead.
Speaking of whiskey…consider hosting a DIY cocktail bar, where his guests can mix their own cocktails or pour their own beer. This can be a fun and interactive way for guests to enjoy themselves without the need for a bartender.
And finally decorate modestly. Avoid going overboard with decorations, (like I do). Opt for a simple, masculine theme using neutral colors, minimal decorations, and subtle lighting.
There are plenty of reasons to get the guys together:
Celebrate his achievements, announce his engagement, host a bachelor party, honor his becoming a father, create a networking event for professionals, or simply an afternoon of relaxing and bonding over common interests with his buddies.
The next time you want to do something special for the man in your life, get his guys together for an afternoon tea! It will be so unique, memorable and entertaining for them.
